Star-Crossed Ecologies
Star-Crossed Ecologies
- Biological, Installation
‘Star-Crossed Ecologies’ a living, growing, and changing microcosm of sterile and subjugated specimens. Suspended from a copper coil are sealed test tubes containing cultures of Flax plants, a food and fibre crop, and the first to be grown on a manned spacecraft, alongside the bacteria and fungi that would make up their soil microbiome if not for the artist’s intervention of control. This piece examines how ourselves and our societies are becoming increasingly cultivated, sterile and above all, separated from the environment and from each other. The work is an exploration of the complexities of living systems and the value of symbiotic interplay for life to thrive.
