Soul Carrier
Soul Carrier is an analogue painting and a digital video. The painting was made by Ben Crappsley using acrylics on plywood inspired by observations of local Pied Cormorant birds and the symbolic nature of all diving birds, who ferry spirits of the dead to the next world in many mythologies. The Video is a collaboration with Perth artist Roly Skender, using Houdini software to extrude geometry from the digital art piece to form a landscape that extends the painting into the realm of the moving image.

Ben Crappsley has continued to develop his arts practice since completing a Masters degree in visual art at Curtin University in 2011, contributing to numerous group exhibitions, awards and three solo exhibitions. Ben has a strong graphic style using various mixed media techniques, creating imaginative images aimed to inspire & intrigue. Ben is currently writing and illustrating a number of comics and is employed as a visual arts tutor in the Perth metropolitan area. Ben is open to commissions and collaborations in all fields of the arts.
